Spain: Prospects for the 12th government

The Spanish 12th government initiates after almost a year since the first presidential elections took place. On October 29, Mariano Rajoy was invested as President of the Spanish Government by a simple majority in the Congress of Deputies. The President is aware of the difficulties facing him in reaching agreements, as he has a parliamentary group of 134 deputies, 43 seats short of an absolute majority.

In this context, the Government’s first milestone of the will be approving the State Budget Act. This will be succeeded by other issues such as the issue of sovereignty in Catalonia, the pact for Energy, the pact for Education or the issue of pensions, between many others.

This report drafted with Cristóbal Herrera analyses the keys to the new government’s term and the variables that will determine the political agenda during the coming months.
