Latin America… in search of an ocean. Reflections before the next international meetings affecting Latin America

In just over a fortnight two events will take place in Latin America. The first is the holding of the twenty fifth Ibero-American Summit and the other is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. Each of these events will focus on the areas of influence of the different regions; looking toward the Atlantic in the political meeting and toward the Pacific in the business meeting.

Latin America can turn to the Atlantic Ocean, toward its natural, traditional and historical partners, or to the members of the Pacific Basin, key players in the growth in infrastructures and energy over recent years.

This article analyses the two possible future trends for Latin America’s trade relations and their advantages and disadvantages.
