Chile’s Law on Food Labelling and Advertising: A Replicable Model for Latin America?

With the intention to reduce the high rates of obesity in the population and especially within children, the Government of Chile promulgated the Law on Food Labelling and Advertising (Law No. 20,606), commonly called “super 8 Law”, which shall take effect on June 26, 2016.

It requires companies to label a black octagon with the descriptor “high” followed by the critical nutrient, to all products that exceed the limits established by law.
