The recovery of reputation at a national level requires more time than that of companies, especially because much more is expected of authorities and governments. It should also be noted that several factors influence the aforementioned process such as policies and the environment, where economic, development and quality of life indicators are taken into account, among others.

This paper analyses the impact that being listed on the FAFT ranking implies for the reputation of Panama; a country with weak means to prevent money laundering. This risk is even more severe for the image of the country since it headquarters a well-known banking center, has a BBB investment grade and is one of the largest growing economies of Latin America.
